The Law Department is comprised of the City Attorney’s Office, which handles representing the City in civil matters, and the City Prosecutor’s Office, which handles the prosecution of misdemeanor crimes committed in Phoenix. The Law Department is currently seeking candidates to fill multiple vacancies in the Prosecutor's Office to provide advanced administrative support as either a Community Justice Specialist or a Criminal Justice Administrative Assistant I .

Employees who work as a Community Justice Specialist will support the 27th Avenue corridor Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan and will support the prosecutors in the Community Bureau. The project was approved by the Phoenix City Council to address community safety, improve the quality of life of community members, and to assist crime prevention efforts along the following focus areas:

  • 27th Avenue Midtown Corridor;
  • 27th Avenue North Corridor;
  • and Hatcher Road.

The Community Justice Specialist must possess a strong knowledge of the Criminal Justice System. This position coordinates crime prevention activities and the planning, developing and implementation of public education, including conducting public presentations, working with community groups, and conducting research on various items. This position is responsible for numerous critical functions and processes in the department, which require technical ability; analytical skills; and independent judgment and time management skills. This position requires extensive knowledge of the criminal justice system, court, and the ability to facilitate community groups. This is a driving position and requires attending meetings, trainings, or events that may occur outside of normal workdays and business hours. Flexibility with work hours/schedule as needed for programming and community needs.

Employees who work as a Criminal Justice Administrative Assistant I are an essential part of the Criminal Justice and Victim Services processes within the Prosecutor's Office. The position oversees the support functions in either the Legal Clerk Unit, Legal Assistant Unit, or Victim Services Unit. A Criminal Justice Administrative Assistant I handles a variety of administrative duties including:

  • Investigating business processes;
  • Developing new/improved processes/systems, procedures, and forms;
  • Performing statistical analyses; program and grant monitoring;
  • Studying administrative problems;
  • Interacting with other criminal justice agencies to gather evidence and investigate evidentiary problems;
  • Redacting victim-identifying information from documents, and audio/video recordings;
  • Supervising clerical or technical personnel in a work environment where a high volume of cases are processed and with a variety of tasks to complete;
  • Training employees;
  • Researching and responding to requests/complaints by the public/victims of crimes;
  • Escorting victims of crime to court; and performing special projects assigned by supervisors.

Work requires the use of initiative and judgment and is performed under the general direction of a department, assistant department, or division head. Performance is evaluated from written reports and results achieved.


  • Sound business communication, written and oral, including public speaking experience.
  • Familiarity with Federal, State and City Regulations related Criminal Justice, Victim Advocacy, or Victim's Rights.


$21.44 (minimum) - $32.56 (maximum) hourly / $44,595.20 - $67,724.80 annually. Candidates may be hired up to $67,724.80 depending upon qualifications.

The City of Phoenix has paused plans to implement a federal mandate requiring all city employees be vaccinated against COVID-19.   • Associate's degree (or two-year legal assistant education program) in criminal justice, justice studies, paralegal studies, or a related field.
  • Knowledge and experience in municipal law.
  • Experience with redaction software.
  • One year experience with the criminal justice process.
  • One year experience supervising workgroups.
  • Experience with PowerPoint presentations, such as drafting and editing presentations for various audiences
