As part of FTI’s engineering team, the Compliance Engineer will bring a strong and practical knowledge of existing and emerging standards as they are applied to Microgrids, Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), Photovoltaics (PV), [Battery] Energy Storage Systems ([B]ESS) and Charging Stations. Experience working with NRTLs such as UL, CSA, and CE, using standards from IEEE, NFPA, and others to apply the associated safety and testing procedures to verify standards and code compliance. Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, involved environment, with competing and changing priorities. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving capabilities with demonstrated leadership abilities, organizational, and excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and presentational are required. Proficiency with the full suite of Microsoft applications is also necessary. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with additional Mechanical Engineering background helpful. Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years (5+ years preferred) of regulatory certification, compliance, and validation work.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) is required.
  • Experience in electrical energy supply and distribution specifically focused toward microgrid systems preferred.
  • Experience in power converters and certifications, UL1741, IEEE1547, CSA C22.2, VDE DIN-AR-4105, AS/NZS 4777, G98, EN50549.
  • Experience in battery energy storage systems (existing and emerging) and certifications, UL1973, UL1642, IEC62619, UL9540, UL9540A.
  • Product certification experience working with NRTL and EMC labs and testing.
  • Experience in working with UL standards required with CSA and CE is highly preferred.
  • Understanding of general laboratory testing equipment and procedures.
  • Self-starting with solid follow-through and multitasking abilities; able to work remotely.
  • The ideal candidate will be someone with a demonstrated track record with Power Converters (i.e., Microgrids, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Photovoltaic (PV), [Battery] Energy Storage Systems ([B]ESS), and Charging Stations with a focus on driving a product through compliance to achieve UL, CSA, or CE listing.
Travel: 0-10% Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday- Friday. However, work may be performed at any time on any day of the week to meet business needs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Acts as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in working with NRTLs and the associated safety and testing procedures.
  • Works within cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with the appropriate and applicable standards and regulations.
  • Factually and objectively identifies, clarifies, and communicates information needed to ensure regulatory compliance by providing regulation definition and intent.
  • Discusses regulatory compliance (wholly or in part) intelligently, creatively, and spontaneously with a professional passion.
  • Manages, coordinates, executes, and documents internal and external testing and audits related to compliance with the applicable national standards and regulations.
  • Prepares and maintains timely document creation, processing, retrieval, and distribution to authorized persons or parties (NRTL’s).
  • Manages certifications-related documents and document policies to facilitate efficient, legal, and secure access to content (physical or electronic) by authorized persons.
  • Supports product teams for the full product life cycle from concept and design to installation, operation, and decommissioning for compliance with applicable codes and safety standards.
  • Collaborates with product design to ensure innovations are compliant with existing codes and standards. Applies consideration toward emerging codes to installation regions as appropriate.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of existing and emerging regulatory requirements, pending industry changes, trends, and best practices.
  • Provides timely feedback to critical stakeholders on how FTI aligns with existing and emerging codes and standards and alerts those stakeholders when changes can affect existing products or those under development.
  • Consults with corporate attorneys as necessary.
  • Actively participates in Faith’s hiring referral and mentoring program, as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
