Shift Manager, Mechanical – Utilities

Job Summary:
As a Shift Manager at Cleveland-Cliffs Steel Indiana Harbor facility, your contributions will be visible all around you; the work we do here impacts people for generations to come. This first level supervisory position managers, leads and directs the maintenance hourly work force across a 24-hour operation in our Utilities group.  Will coordinate all maintenance activities on an assigned shift or multiple shifts within a single operations department or unit.  You will be responsible for safety, housekeeping, turn operations and downturn work execution, as outlined below.

  • Direct Union employees performing maintenance and operating work.
  • Ensure that work is performed safely.
  • Ensure the work is performed in accordance with environmental regulations.
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to assign PM’s and work orders.
  • Utilize drawings, manuals, and technical resources to solve equipment problems.
  • Develop improvement projects by creating a scope of work, costs estimate, and schedule to perform a job.
  • Manage improvement projects by procuring equipment and labor to perform a job.
  • Supervise contractors doing work in the field.
  • Perform troubleshooting and failure analysis and creates countermeasures for system reliability improvement. Equipment including pumps, fans, turbines, mechanical drives, bearings, piping systems, etc
  • Improve the preventive maintenance program by creating new PM’s and updating existing outdated PM’s
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED  from an accredited school AND three years (3) of front-line maintenance supervisor.
  • Able to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Preferably (3) years of experience as a front –line maintenance supervisor in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology
