Security Therapy Aide I/Trainee

Description of Duties/Essential Functions

SECURITY THERAPY AIDE I: Under direct supervision, on the night shift (2245-0645), performs routine tasks in providing therapeutic custodial care to adults in a secure residential care forensic unit. Oversees the movements, conduct, activities and basic care of patients in assigned unit. Provides general guidance and counseling to patients; prepares routine reports concerning patient behavior, progress and responses to treatment of medications; confers with supervisor concerning special programs.

SECURITY THERAPY AIDE TRAINEE: Under immediate supervision for a period not to exceed 12 months, receives training and on-the-job experience in providing therapeutic custodial care to adults in a secure residential care forensic unit. Transports/drives patients to court appearances, medical appointments and other needs outside of the facility.

Minimum Requirements

SECURITY THERAPY AIDE I: Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completions of high school. Requires successful completion of an approved Security Therapy Aide Training Program or equivalent experience. Requires the ability to control and direct patients with mental illness, to pass Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training. Requires ability to protect self and others and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and manual resuscitation, mouth to mask. Requires ability to write clear and cohesive statements in the clinical records and the ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with others. Requires ability and willingness to give and follow orders. Requires ability to report and document unusual happenings, accidents and violations of rules. Requires freedom from personality or character defects which would interfere with effective treatment of individuals with mental illness under conditions of maximum security. Requires ability to think clearly and exercise initiative in emergency situations. Requires ability to identify most appropriate positive treatment regime and carry out that treatment in accordance with best practice and behavior modification.

SECURITY THERAPY AIDE TRAINEE: Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school. Requires ability to participate in and successfully complete the Security Therapy Aide training program. Requires ability to protect self and others. Requires possession of a valid driver's license to transport/drive patients to court appearances, medical appointments and other needs outside the facility

Security Therapy Aide Trainee Salary Range: $3151-$4401/month
