Lead Veterinary Floor Technician

General Job Description:

The Lead Veterinary Floor Technician is part a management team that is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the overall hospital. They are responsible for the floor technicians, assistants and aides who support the veterinarians. They oversee new employee orientations, training, and assist in reviewing the assistant and technician staff. The Lead Veterinary Floor Technician must be able to accept responsibility, listen to staff, communicate well and be organized. They must also have good reporting and observational skills to keep the Managing DVM and Practice Manager appraised of the status of the support staff and hospital.

Supervises: All Floor Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, and Veterinary Assistant Aides


An ideal candidate will be a RVT and familiar with AVIMARK veterinary software program and paperless records. Previous leadership experience preferred. High work ethic, team oriented management style and positive attitude is a must.

Must be proficient in:

  • Radiology/ultrasound set up, positioning, image capture
  • Assisting with surgical procedures and providing safe anesthesia and sedation
  • Obtaining blood, urine and other laboratory samples and tests
  • Communicating accurately and precisely with customers
  • Charting and maintenance of medical records


Human Resources

  • Supervise, train and help evaluate all assistant/technical staff
  • Scheduling of assistant/technical staff
  • Assist in screening, hiring, and interviewing of job applicants (always in conjunction with MDVM and HM)
  • Assist in mediating personnel grievances and disputes (always in conjunction with MDVM and HM)
  • Assist in planning and conducting staff meetings
  • Maintain morale and positive/efficient teamwork


  • Maintain facilities and medical equipment/supplies to maximize function and efficiency
  • Provide primary assistant to support DVMs
  • Provide daily guidance and organization to technicians, assistants, and assistant aides.
  • provide constructive feedback on medical protocols, operations, and efficiency
  • Perform the duties of a Veterinary Technician for day to day operations
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with OSHA, DEA, and FDA requirements.
